Belarus is situated in the center of Europe on the watershed of Baltic and Black seas

The territory of Belarus is 207,600 sq.km. The population of Belarus is 9,750,200 people as for January 1, 2006. The capital of Belarus is Minsk with the population of 1.8 mln people.

The distance from Minsk to the capitals of the neighborhood countries is: Vilnius – 215 km, Riga – 470 km, Warsaw – 550 km, Kiev – 580 km, Moscow – 700 km.

The main track of Eurasia, the shortest thoroughfares between Russia-Europe and between Baltic and Black seas are passing throughout the territory of Belarus.

Belarus is on the 13th place by size among the European countries and on the 5th by population among CIS countries.
